Folkestone Rowing Club
New Boat Christened
The Dave Rumbold Launched
On Sunday the 8th February the second of two new boats were Christened at the clubhouse. The boats were purchased from a grant from Kent County Council to aid in the clubs junior rowing programme. Both Double sculls they will assist in the one to one teaching of new junior rowers.
Club captain Marc Alderman unveiled the new boat, named after Dave Rumbold. Dave's main rowing acheivement was winning ten out of eleven junior sculls races at Regattas in 1987 to win the junior sculls championship. Dave has rowed for many years and has also assisted the club with training Novices and Junior rowers. Dave was Vice-Captain for two years followed by a year as club captain. During this time the club completed its clubmark status and Dave spent many hours training junior rowers and setting up the Club Welfare Officer position. Dave also has been heavily involved in raising funds for the rowing club and has spent many a regatta towing the boats. There was a good turnout of members for the christening. Dave was supported at the event by his wife, Sue and youngest daughter, Katie.
Dave, affectionatley known as "syrup", indicated that he was surpised that the name didnt feature on the new boat and added a joke hairpiece causing much mirth amongst the members. Some even supported Dave by adorning the hairpiece. (No offence mean't!)
